Svend Christensen: Innovating String Instrument Craftsmanship

Svend Christensen is an award-winning violin and bow maker, finely skilled with repair and restoration of all stringed instruments and bows. He is also the founder of Svencino, an online string instrument resource that is intended to help all South Africans with better access to information and everything they need around them.

To achieve the highest quality of finished cut and sound, Svend draws from his studies in fine arts, his natural talent for mathematics, science and engineering.

What distinguishes Svend from other violin makers is his relentless pursuit for innovation. His clients have come to expect his unique features added to classic design that both adds to the aesthetics and their playing experience.

To support and improve on the quality that he and other lurhiers need to import Svend has been in the process of setting up a studio which will eventually help with training more luthiers who need: tools, fittings, stands and cases. So far the successes with home grown has been our Harmonic tail pieces and reverse engineered wolf harmonisers.

Based in South Africa, his reputation as one of the country’s fine luthiers, his company’s excellent customer service and always happy to explain, has contributed to the growth of his client base beyond the country’s borders and the African continent. His work is also sold in the U.S.A., Europe and the Middle-East.
