Setup & Regulation of new string instruments. This process includes the following stages:
- Pegs fitting and graphite lubrication.
- Nut cut and adjustment to fingerboard.
- Fingerboard shape, camber & projection to the bridge.
- Bridge fitting and regulation.
- Sound post fitting and regulation.
- Tailpiece positioning.
- Button fitting, ensuring it is snug.
- Tuning and final voicing with the musician.
Basic maintenance such as:
- Glue seams.
- Crack repair.
- Cleaning and polishing.
- String change assistance.
- Sound post regulation and Voicing.
Bow Restoration & Rehairs
- Basic rehair includes cleaning and basic fit adjustments to frog on bow.
- New leather lapping and silver winding.
- Frog repairs.
- Ivory tip grafts.
- Silver, monmouth or bone tip replacements.
- Camber/ bend adjustments.
- Any major repairs and restorations that are otherwise "impossible" including broken bows and broken tips.
Instrument Rebuilding
Rebuilding and fitting of old instruments that are worthy candidates. Usually old nondescript German or Czech instruments.
This often requires disassembling the entire instrument to recut and refit all the joinery and seams. To both repair and re-repair old cracks including removing excess cleats to improve on resonance and response.
Major restorations. Usually meaning old play value or provenance valued instruments that need close to the latter and deeper attention to:
- Chest corrections.
- Sound post patches.
- Edge grafts.
- Neck grafts.
- Purfling repairs.
- Neck refitting.
- Neck and fingerboard projection to the bridge corrections.
- Varnish colour touch ups.
- Varnish repair and finishing.
